If you haven’t already, it’s time to set plans to attend the 34th AACVPR Annual Meeting. September might seem like a ways away, but it’ll be here before you know it! AACVPR is so excited that this year’s big event will be held in Portland, Oregon. So excited, in fact, that we wanted to share some highlights from the city with you here.
Here are the top three reasons you need to visit Portland:
- Fresh Air
Portland is a green city filled with parks, forests and gardens the likes of which will leave you refreshed and renewed. Don’t miss the Portland Japanese Garden, Lan Su Chinese Garden, International Rose Test Garden, Mt. Tabor Park, Hoyt Arboretum, Forest Park and so much more. Get ready to breathe in deep, and be sure to bring shoes to dirty up and camera lenses to keep clean.
- Get Cultured
Trust us: Portland will fuel your brain. You cannot miss Powell’s Books, the largest independent bookstore in the world. The levels are color coded! And if you have the time, check out the Museum of Contemporary Craft, a 418-square-metre venue showcasing rotating exhibits from leading artists and pieces from a 1,300-object collection.
- Foodies, Unite
What’s a city without dynamic food? Chances are you’ve heard of the wildly popular Voodoo Doughnut, one of Portland’s main attractions — for good reason. If you’re out and about, take advantage of Portland’s many food carts for accessible, fresh eats. Want a place to relax? Head to Steven Smith Teamaker, where you can witness the production process and make your own custom case of tea.
Portland is a quirky, verdant city that boasts plenty of ways to stimulate its guests. You will soon be learning about all the education and networking opportunities available to you at this year’s 34th Annual Meeting; but until then, start envisioning yourself in a park in Portland, reading a book you stumbled upon and sipping a cup of freshly brewed tea.
We hope to see you there!
