“Consensus Statement on the Virtual and Remote Delivery of CR/PR and Their Components”
In-person cardiac rehabilitation (CR) and pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) programs remain the recommendation for all eligible patients, but access to and utilization of in-person programs remains low. Non-traditional delivery models for CR and PR may help increase utilization, but there is a lack of guidance on how these delivery models should be implemented to ensure quality care.
To address this need for clear guidance and structure for virtual and remote CR & PR programs, AACVPR has published this new consensus statement to better define virtual and remote programs, to identify key components that need to be included when developing a virtual or remote program, and to identify areas where further research is needed to strengthen the quality of care provided by virtual and remote programs.
Make sure to check out the following article components to get up to speed on virtual and remote CR & PR delivery:
- Table 1: Terms and Definitions for In-Person, Virtually, and Remotely Delivered Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation
- Make sure you read this table to better understand how these delivery models are defined
- Table 2: Definitions of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation by Delivery Model
- Don’t forget to review this table to better contextualize how the specific delivery model impacts important aspects of CR and PR programs like program components, medical directorship, supervision, and reimbursement
- Table 5: Categories of Patients That May Require More Careful Analysis and Discussion Before Enrollment in Virtual and Remote Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation
- Review this table to help identify risk factors and characteristics in patients that may best be served by starting in an in-person program and then re-evaluating the patient to determine suitability for hybrid or remote CR/PR
- Table 6 and 7: Summary of the Key Characteristics for Prescribing Exercise for Synchronized Real-Time or Remote Asynchronous Cardiac Rehabilitation/Pulmonary Rehabilitation
- Check out these tables for important guidance on how to best complete exercise prescriptions for synchronized real-time and remote asynchronous CR/PR
