Since 1984, May has been proclaimed as National Blood Pressure Awareness Month, bringing attention to the impact high blood pressure can have on health.
According to the 2017 ACC/AHA Guidelines for the Prevention, Detection, Evaluation and Management of High Blood Pressure in Adults, 45.6%--almost half of U.S. adults—have hypertension. These guidelines redefine hypertension and lower the target for blood pressure treatment which gives the opportunity for early detection to reduce cardiovascular risk.
The AACVPR website has information and tools available for both the professional and patients on hypertension and risk reduction, including the Million Hearts Hypertension Control Change Package for Clinicians.
The latest AACVPR webcast “Hypertension Update: Get with the Guidelines!” was presented by Dr. Angie Price. If you did not have the opportunity to hear it live, it is available through the Learning Center on the AACVPR website. This can be purchased for a fee or if you are Education Advantage and/or Joint Affiliate Members, you will receive complimentary registration and CE.
